With the rapidly increasing movement towards deeper commitment in protecting the environment, personnel of PhilHealth Regional Office VI took advantaged of the August 25 holiday to perform an unpopular act of ‘plant a tree and preserve the environment’.

A number of seedlings which include a Davao grafted lanzones were planted along the mountains of Lambunao, Iloilo – 60 kilometers northwest of Iloilo. PhilHealth volunteers troded the non-permanent trail for half an hour climbed to the top site carrying the plants in both hands under the scourging heat of the sun and slippery mud traversing the area.

“As advocates of the National Health Insurance Program, we also take cognizance of our social responsibility of protecting the environment. Through planting new trees, we demonstrate our own little but significant contribution to this global concern,” said PRO VI AVP Alberto C. Manduriao.

These environment enthusiasts also aspire to visit nearby municipalities to replicate this worthwhile endeavor in the following months as well as in other provinces within the region by next year.
“This is just a kick-off activity of the group which will be formally organized before the end of the year, said Bien Paul Obordo-EA, the project motivator. “We have lined-up series of activities that are inclined at caring and protecting our environment”, he added.

Incessantly, PRO VI has not only provided the Ilonggos with accessible, affordable and quality health care services, but equally shared its responsibility in preserving and perpetuating its commitment in preserving the environment, PhilHealth’s way of propagating its corporate social responsibility. The seedlings were provided for free by West Visayas State University – College of Agriculture and Forestry, Lambunao Campus.
